How Did We Get Here?

Our founder, Adam Fried, grew up in a northern suburb of Chicago. He grew up around a tight community, with a lot of Jewish friends and family. After his parent’s divorce and his Bar Mitzvah, the family stopped going to synagogue.

Many years later, he found himself living in Germany, the farthest place he ever thought he would be. He was there to be with his only daughter, who he promised he would never leave.

While living in a town with a history of Nazi activity and a long history of Antisemitism, he rediscovers what it means to be Jewish and what his tribe has been through since the beginning of time.  After learning of many atrocities committed around the area over the centuries against Jewish people, he decided to dedicate his resources to educating people so that it never happens again.

And That is How the Visual History Initiative Was Born.
